Getting Back Up

It’s true that it can get harder to get back up the more times you get knocked down, but . . . .

Failure only occurs when you stop getting up, not when you get knocked down.

I love the movie Rocky. In the final showdown at the end of the movie, Rocky fights the heavy weight champion. Rocky is the underdog. He isn’t graceful. He doesn’t have any special footwork and he isn’t the fastest. As a matter of fact, his opponent lands blow after blow on Rocky, knocking him down multiple times. But Rocky has something else, determination. Every time he gets knocked down, he gets back up and he does something no one expected. He lasts the duration in the ring with the champion, because he kept getting back up.

Getting knocked down repeatedly is weary. It weighs on you emotionally and you have to dig down deep in order to find the strength to keep going. That’s what perseverance is. You find the strength to get up again while your mind and maybe even those around you are shouting, “Stay down. Give up. It’s not worth it.”

We have a perfect record of failure when we stop trying. So, don’t give up. You won’t know if this is the time you succeed if you don’t get up and try.
